Racism Issues
Today we live in a world that has racist views. Many people think that it is no longer as large a problem as it was in the past, but, while things may be slightly better now, we are still far from a non-racist world.
Here are the main areas where we can and need to improve:
1: Education
There are many examples of racism evident in education, one would be disciplinary actions. This means kids of different races, who misbehave in the same way , would receive different punishments, with one being much harsher than the other. One thing that is especially staggering about this, is that it starts as early as preschool, which can influence other kids to have similar racist views.
2: Wealth
Since the Civil Rights era the median wealth gap of White Americans to non-White Americans has only increased, meaning that non-White Americans are both receiving less money for the same jobs as whites, and not getting the same high-paying jobs as whites even if they are qualified. Also, just having non-White sounding name will decrease your chances of receiving a callback after submitting a job application.
3: Legal
Non-White Americans, specifically African-American men, receive prison sentences 20% longer for similar crimes as White men. African-Americans also receive more drug arrests even though more White American do, and are caught with illegal drugs.
